The Nike Air Force is a range of athletic shoes introduced in 1982 by designer Bruce Kilgore. It was the first basketball shoe to use Nike's 'Air' technology. The Air Force 1 is the foundational model, named after Air Force One. Production ran from 1982 to 1984, then resumed in 1986 with updated branding. Its cut is rigid, its upper is full-grain leather, its sole contains a sealed air unit. It comes in low-, mid-, and high-top versions. Since 1982, only side-panel stitching has been removed.
It is not a sneaker line. It is an athletic shoe range built around one innovation: pressurised air in a basketball context.
