A garment engineered by Massimo Osti using post-assembly dyeing, stone washing, and rubber coating—first deployed in Stone Island’s 1982 collection, inspired by truck drivers’ tarps.
How it works, in terms someone would actually use
Garment dyeing applies colour to finished clothes, not fabric rolls. Different materials in one garment absorb dye unevenly. This creates tone-on-tone effects without printing or weaving complexity.
What it gets right
It delivers functional waterproofing via rubber coating on wool and linen. It achieves tonal depth through differential reactivity—not pigment mixing. It makes resistance visible, not just durable.

It does not solve fit. It does not prioritise drape or body-flattery. It does not hide construction seams or simplify pattern cutting.
